Srinagar – Noted writer, critic and researcher from Jammu and Kashmir, Prof (Dr.) Akbar Hyderi, who edited the Hakeem-ul-Ummat magazine, passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness.
Dr. Hyderi was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at Hamadania Colony in Bemina.
Large number of people from different walks of life joined the funeral prayers which were led by Maulana Abbas Ansari.
Considered to be among the foremost scholars of Urdu, Dr. Hyderi has nearly 80 literary works to his credit, and had been editing and compiling the Hakeem-ul-Ummat magazine for the past 20 years
The journal has achieved commendable popularity among the intellectual class.
Kashmir Observer editorial board held a condolence meeting and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. At a condolence meeting the state Academy of Art Cultural and Languages today, secretary Khalid Bashir Ahmad, described his passing away as an irreparable loss to the literary world.
Family sources said, Fateha khwani for the departed will be held on Friday at the Hamadania Colony cemetery.
