Srinagar – High Court has reserved judgment on petition of the Muslim League Chairman, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, seeking his release.
A bench of Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir reserved the judgment after hearing arguments of Dr Fakhtoos counsel, Mian Abdul Qayoom, and the government council, AM Magray.
Mian Qayoom argued that Dr Fakhtoo had spent more than 20 years behind the bars, which amounted to life imprisonment. Dr Faktoo on May 31, 2012 completed 20 years in prison which as per the Jail Manual and Prisons Act amounts to life imprisonment, Qayoom argued.
He told the court that a communication from DIG Prisons addressed to DG Prisons had also vindicated the fact that his petitioner had completed the sentence of life term.
