SRINAGAR: National Conference and Congress finally broke the ice on the controversial nomination of councillors in the newly elected Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Kargil).
The truce was reached at the coordination committee meeting chaired by the PCC President Prof. Saifudin Soz here at Governmnet guest house on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minster Tara Chand, Finance Minster Ab. Rahim Rather, Peerzada Mohamamd Syed, Ali Mohamamd Sagar and Ch. Mohamamd Ramzan. Sources in the government said that the committee agreed to allow Congress to stake claim for the Kargil Council.
It was also decided that the chairman of the council would be from Congress.
The CC also agreed that the nomination of four persons on behalf of the National Conference to the LAHDC, Kargil remain intact but the four nominated members wont have voting rights, KNS quoting sources said.
Meanwhile according to the statement issued by the spokesman of the Congress party, The NC Members in the CC, however, stressed that the legal position in respect of voting rights for the four members be examined further.
The Congress members agreed with this suggestion, but explained that as per the existing law, the nominated members do not have any voting rights.
It was also agreed that the Coordination Committee would examine the Congress partys strong plea for sharing positions of nomination, in future, equally. This would remain on the agenda of the Coordination Committee. reads the statement.
