SRINAGAR: The 8-day State Level Terracotta Sculpture Camp started on August 30 here, concluded today with an exhibition of the attractive art objects produced by artists during the camp. As many as 10 artists from Kashmir, Jammu and Delhi participated in the camp held in the bewitching environs of the Almond Villa estate, on the banks of the Dal Lake, provided by the Dara Shikoh Centre for Arts with whose assistance the Academy organised the activity.
The camp was the first initiative by J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages in terracotta sculpture and was highly appreciated by the artist community.
The visitors to the camp evinced keen interest in the art objects on display and hoped the Academy would organise more such camps to promote terracotta art in the State.
Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Khalid Bashir Ahmad, described the Academys maiden camp on terracotta art as a huge success and thanked the participating artists and Dara Shikoh Centre for Arts (DSCA) for making it possible. Without the infrastructural support of the DSCA, he said, it would not have been possible to hold an event like this. He said the Academy was committed to the promotion of art, culture and languages and its activities in these fields have shown an the appreciable increase in recent months. He said a schedule of events has been drawn for the coming months focussing on some major cultural and literary activities across the State.
Director Dara Shikoh Centre for Arts, Dr. Jyotsna Singh, who has been mostly working in terracotta pottery, said it was a great experience for her to work with sculptors and the camp proved very helpful.
The participating artists shared their experiences during the camp and described it as a wonderful experience.
