Baramulla: The district administration has directed police to probe the alleged assault on a trucker by government forces in Sopore town of this north Kashmir district last week.
According to reports, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla G.N Itoo shot a letter to SSP Sopore expressing his anguish over the alleged assault on an Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) tanker driver identified as Babu Ram near the sub-district hospital Sopore on Saturday last.
The trucker was on way to Jammu from Kupwara when he was intercepted by government forces, reports said.
The probe was ordered by Itoo after receiving an email complaint from DGM, Retail Sales, IOC, Jammu, Rajiv Yadav, reports said.
“In the said complaint it has been indicated that the driver Shri Babu Ram driving LPG Truck (JKO2F-4075) has been beaten by police and even photographs have been attached with this mail in proof of the claim,” writes DC Baramulla to SSP Sopore in a letter vide number DCB/PS/455-60 on April 13
“It is a serious matter and needs to be properly enquired and action needs to be taken against those involved,” the letter adds.
The letter further advises SSP Sopore to initiate an enquiry into matter and share the outcome along with action with DC office within 2 days.
