SRINAGAR: Amid growing resentment among the civil society members against music maestro Zubin Mehtas concert in Kashmir, German ambassador Michael Steiner and wife Eliese Steiner took stock of the venue at Srinagars Mughal garden Shalimar Bagh on Tuesday morning.
Steiner took stock of the arrangements with a German technical team. The concert is scheduled to be held on September 7.
He arrived at Shalimar garden today and was briefed by the authorities about security, seating and other arrangements for the concert, a senior government officer said.
Authorities gave him details of security arrangements for the concert and was informed that all security arrangements have been taken for the concert, he said
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Saturday had visited Shalimar Garden to oversea the arrangements.
A pre-fabricated 70 by 50 feet podium is being created on the second terrace with Mughal-era Diwan-i-Khas or Black Pavilion in the backdrop. A girdle tied to two long poles will be used for lighting and sound under the shades of majestic rowed Chinar trees.
The line of fountains (spread over 1.6 km) will not work on the day of performance because the flow and its noise may distract artists, said a senior official, who accompanied the ambassador to the garden.
Nearly 1500 persons have been invited to the concert and bulk of them include ministers, bureaucrats, their families and police and military officials. Agencies
