Custom, Forest departments creating hurdles in our business
SRINAGAR: Salamabad-Chakoti LoC Traders Union Friday decided to suspend trade for an indefinite period against the alleged hurdles being created by Customs Department at the Salamabad check post.
They dont allow us to carry smooth trade. We took the decision after a meeting of all the traders at Salamabad Uri on Friday, president of the Union Nazir Ahmad Lone said.
He had alleged that Chief Conservator Forests (CCF) Kashmir was also creating hurdles in smooth conduct of their business due to which they were suffering losses.
Since 2008, when the trade started, we were importing minor forest produce (MFP) from other side of the LoC. We were being issued Form 25 by Forest Department from Trade Facilitation Center Salamabad till now. But recently CCF gave verbal instructions to DFO Baramulla not to allow us to carry our goods beyond Baramulla.
Lone said this week all the trucks carrying MFP from Chakoti were stopped at Uri on the instructions of CCF. When we met CCF he told us to dump the goods in godowns
Forest Minister Mian Altaf had said that he asked his officers not to create any problem for the traders. I told them (forest officers) if they need any direction from the government, we will issue the order from secretariat, Altaf said.
