Srinagar: Two people on Monday escaped from quarantine facilities in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, before police brought them back and booked them for negligent behavior.
A youth escaped from a quarantine centre set up at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora, but he was apprehended and brought back to the facility and booked by the police, news agency KNT reported. The youth hailing from Pampore town was booked for displaying negligent behavior and action.
“An FIR 42/2020 under sections 188, 270 and 271 IPC have been registered against him,” a police officer told the news agency.
In Samba district of Jammu, a resident of north Kashmir’s Kupwara fled the quarantine centre on Sunday. On being informed about the incident a police team from Ramgarh immediately swung into action, traced the man and brought him back the same day, officials said.
Officials said that despite knowing that the COVID-19 disease can be fatal, the man negligently and deliberately left the quarantine centre increasing the risk of spreading the disease.
A case has been registered against the man at Ramgarh police station, they said.
17 Lockdown Violators Held In City
Police meanwhile claimed to have arrested 17 people and seized nine vehicles for alleged lockdown violation in parts of this capital city.
A police spokesperson said that action tough against the people violating prohibitory orders, police arrested 17 people, including a shopkeeper from Nishat and Harwan areas of the city. One vehicle was also seized by police in the area for lockdown violation.
“Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated,” the spokesperson said.
Nine people were also arrested by police in the areas falling under police station Ram Munshi Bagh and Nowgam for violating government orders. Eight vehicles, police spokesperson said, were also seized.
In Khanyar also, five people were arrested by police for violating lockdown.
