Qazigund: Scores of people blocked Srinagar-Jammu Highway on Monday after some masked men donning black uniforms tried to snatch a baby boy from his mother.
According to reports, people assembled near Lower Munda Toll Post and blocked the road after a woman complained that few masked men, donning black uniform, tried to snatch her baby boy Arafat Hussain Mir. The woman told people that after raising hue and cry, these men escaped and entered into 9 RR army camp located at Wajroo, Qazigund.
People blocked the traffic and demanded immediate action against the guilty. It was only after the intervention of police that protestors dispersed peacefully.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Qazigund, Rahul Malik said that the woman told police that few masked men in uniform tried to snatch her baby boy and after failing in their attempt they allegedly entered into the Army camp. We talked to Army officer and they denied the allegation. There is no witness to the incident and we are investigating the matter. We cant blame anyone for none of their fault, he said.
SHO, Qazigund said that it was only a rumour. Miscreants spread such rumours and people blocked the traffic and when we told them the fact, they dispersed peacefully, he said. (CNS)
