SRINAGAR: Acting on news reports about the nexus between doctors and pharmaceutical companies, the state government Friday ordered probe into the nasty nexus within a stipulated time period of three days.
A senior official from government whishing anonymity said that Government has constituted a 3-member team to inquire into the allegations leveled against some doctors involved in getting freebies from a leading medicine company Micro-Labs Bangalore for prescribing their medicine.
The 3-member team comprises of HOD Medicine Dr. Saima Bhat, Medical Superintendent (SMHS), Nazir Ahmad Chowdary and Registrar Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr. Wasim Khalid.
The enquiry officer has been asked to submit the report within 3 days time, the official said, adding that in the initial phase we have attached renowned Gastroenterologist and a Consultant Medicine at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, Dr. Abdul Majid Wani to the office of the Principal GMC College.
Principal Medical College, Dr. Qazi Masood Ahmad said there is a specific media report about Dr. Abdul Majid Wani having received freebies from Micro-Labs, Bangalore and we have initiated a departmental enquiry into the issue.
Dr. Abdul Majid Wani, however said: There is conspiracy to malign my image. They (distributors) have made crores of rupees from this nexus and have bought land worth crores of rupees at Kupwara and in Peer Bagh area.
When contacted Minister for Medical Education, Taj Mohi-ud-Din said we are looking into the matter and the enquiry team will submit its report within days. After that we will be able to take decision regarding the issue, Taj said, adding that it is unethical on part of doctors that they have sold their conscience to these companies.
The Minister further said: We are going to forward the matter to Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council.
Meanwhile, the probe comes a day after this newspaper published a report by GNS how several doctors in Kashmir Valley were allegedly getting freebies from Bangalore based Pharma company Micro-Labs.
