KARGIL: Approximately 60-70% voters came out to cast their votes in the 3rd General Election for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil today.
Elections are being held for 24 seats of LAHDC as two candidates were elected unopposed. As many as 84 candidates are in the fray.
Voting started at 8 am and continued till 4 pm. People, both men and women, were seen in long queues since early morning and according to some voters they reached the polling station at 5 am.
According to Election Authority/Deputy Commissioner 60-70% votes had been cast till last reports were received at 4 p.m. Reports from Zanskar were not received by the time.
According to voters this Local Body which came into existence in 1995 in Leh Ladakh and in 2003 in Kargil, people have seen significant development and change in the society.
Election Authority/Deputy Commissioner Kargil Fida Hussain inspected voting booths in Town Area and SSP Kargil inspected with a team of Officers various hyper sensitive polling stations.
The counting will take place on 28th of August and by 2nd of September the new members of LAHDC will take oath for the new council.
