Contractors unable to submit e-tenders
Srinagar: Business establishments in Valley have suffered losses to the tune of lakhs of rupees after the snapping of internet services and imposition of restrictions for four consecutive days.
Mobile internet connectivity in the Valley was suspended after the communal tensions erupted in Kishtwar of Jammu region on August 9. Various government agencies and contractors were unable to submit and receive tenders worth lakhs of rupees, said official sources.
They claimed the funds meant for Kashmir are being diverted to Jammu, thus pushing the valley back as far as progress and development is concerned.
General Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Central Contractors Coordination Committee (JKCCCC), Farooq Ahmad Dar said that e-tenders worth lakhs of rupees slipped out of their hands after the government snapped the Internet services
Following the communal clashes in Kishtwar, Internet services were snapped by here. During this time, we could not submit our tenders online and lost contracts worth lakhs of rupees, he said.
The e-tendering process has been hectic and cumbersome for us since its inception in Kashmir. Despite the state government inviting tenders for contracts worth hundreds of lakhs of rupees, we could not apply even for a single one owing to the snapping of the internet services, he added.
In the wake of the JKCCCC failing to bag any prestigious contract in such a scenario, Dar informed that even the contracts within the Srinagar city have slipped out of their kitty. As funds meant for developmental works in Kashmir were diverted to Jammu region on previous occasions, Dar said that the money out of the cancelled contracts may face the same fate.
