Srinagar, Sep 17: Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Muhammad Yasin Malik too have backed the Muttahida Ulama-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat (MUAS) in calling for a strike on Tuesday against a derogatory film on the Holy Prophet of Islam (pbuh).
Though Geelani did not mention the MUAS, he said that the Hurriyat (G)s earlier decision to call for a strike on Friday had been changed in favour of Tuesday in the wider interest of unity.
It is the religious duty of Muslims to express anger at insults directed at the Prophet of Islam (pbuh), Geelani said in a statement, asking traders, transporters, and government employees to co-operate to fulfil their responsibility towards their faith.
The US, Israeli and Indian states are at war with Islam and Muslims, but the Hurriyat does not favour harming any innocent individual belonging to those countries. That would be contrary to Islamic and moral principles, and is not allowed by the teachings of the Holy Prophet (pbuh), the faction said.
We can only regret the mentality of people who cast doubts on our stand and term it as compromise, it said.
The Hurriyat states its position on all issues without mincing words, and things are accepted or rejected purely on the basis of reason and argument, it said.
In his call for the strike, the chairman of the JKLF, Muhammad Yasin Malik said that the film in question had surfaced in the month of September just like the desecration of the Holy Quran last year.
Calling for a ban on the offensive film, Malik said that all world leaders should emulate the UN secretary general in condemning it, and play their role in stopping this war of civilizations.
Bar extends support
The J&K High Court Bar Association has decided to support the call for general shut down on September 18 as a mark of protest against the blasphemous movie.
As such all the members of the Bar Association are requested to abstain from work on 18.09.2012 in High court as well as in the courts subordinates to it, said the Bar spokesman.
Other Bar Associations of J&K are also requested to observe one day strike against the blasphemous movie produced and screened in the world against our beloved Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) which has hurt the sentiments and feelings of the Muslim Ummah, he added.
