SRINAGAR: Baramulla police Friday claimed to have recovered cocaine worth approximately Rs 10 crore from a truck that had returned from across the LOC.
According to district police authorities, on a specific input Baramulla police intercepted a truck bearing registration No. JK02F-0127, driven by one Abdul Ahad Ganie of Mawar Handwara, this afternoon.
The truck had gone to Pakistani Kashmir on Thursday with a load of Bananas from fruit Mandi Srinagar which were delivered to one Faizan Traders PcK. During search of the truck on its return near Sheeri 09 Packets (approx 10Kgs) of contraband cocaine was recovered, police said.
The consignment of the contraband was concealed in a tire on the overhead toolbox, police said.
On being questioned the driver and conductor of the truck admitted that they had brought the illegal drugs from PcK which were to be delivered to some conduit in Srinagar. A case FIR No. 47/2013 has been registered in Police Station Sheeri and investigation taken up, said police.
The police has said that the estimated market value of the substance is Rs.10 Crore approx. in the international market. Further investigation is going on, he said.
