They had plans to kill five more Sarpanchs before Eid
SRINAGAR: Claiming that it has busted a Hizb module, Police Thursday said that all the militants involved in the killing of SPO Mudasir Ahmed Dar and the assailants behind the attack on Sarpanch in North Kashmirs Sopore town have been nabbed.
Addressing media persons, Deputy Inspector General North Kahmir, J.P.Singh said that on the basis of eyewitness account, 22 Army and CRPF personnel in a joint raid arrested one Asif Ahmed Dar aka Ashmate sone of Ghulam Hassan Dar resident of Mumkak Sopore and on his disclosure police was able to arrest one more accused Aqib Ahmed Mir son of Mohammad Ramzan resident of Khawaja Gilgat Sopore. Both the accused were carrying pistols with them during their arrests and police seized these pistols from them, Singh told reporters.
DIG, North Kashmir further said that during the interrogation of the accused two more persons namely Merajudin Rather aka Shabir son of Gulzar Ahmad and Fayaz Ahmad Lone son of Abdul Rashid residents of Krankshivan Sopore were arrested by police with the assistance of 52 RR and CRPF personnel. Two more pistols were recovered from them, he said.
Investigation of the cases reveal that on the day of incident the three accused killers Asif Ahmad Dar, Mehrajudin Rather and Fayaz Ahmad offered prayers in Jamia Masjid Krankshivan where Sarrpanch Khizar Mohammad also offered prayers. All the three came out of the mosque before the Sarpanch and Asif Ahmad Dar with backup support of other two fired upon him from point blank, range. Assuming him to be dead they fled away from the spot. Moreover, the killers Asif Ahmad Dar and Aqib Ramzan Mir went to Untoo Hamam and attacked SPO Mudasir Ahmad Dar killing him on spot. Mudasir was a member of anti-narcotics squad of Sopore Police, he said.
Giving details about the accused persons, DIG North Kashmir said Asif Dar was a stone pelter and drug addict involved in number of cases vide FIR numbers 308/2010,324/2010 & 330/2010 U/S 147,148,149,336, 307 and 427 RPC of police station Sopore. We had detained him under Public Safety Act; however he got his PSA quashed through legal cell of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) after three months, he said adding that the second accused Aqib Ramzan is a school dropout.
Mehrajudin Rather as former militant who had gone to POK in 2000 for training of Arms and Ammunition. After his return from POK he was arrested in Baramulla in year 2003. His father Gulzar Ahmad has also been arrested in year 2005 with fake currency at Goshbug Pattan. During year 2011 Mehrajudin again associated himself with the terrorists of JeM and was subsequently arrested along with a pistol and two hand grenades from Zakura Srinagar. A case FIR No: 19/2011 U/S 7/25 stands registered in the matter with Police Station Zakura Srinagar. Fayaz Ahmad had earlier been an over ground worker of the militants Ishtiyaq Pir of Hygam and Zahoor ganie @Vicky of Krankshivan around year 2007, he said. (CNS)
