Srinagar: Stating that religious awareness is imperative for political awareness, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Miriwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday called upon the ulema and intellectuals to devote their attention to allay problems facing the Muslims including the very painful incidents of sectarian skirmishes in Budgam district.
Spreading the message of Holy Quran is very important in contemporary time, Mirwaiz said addressing people at Aalimasjid here in connection with function organized By ACC to pay tributes to Mahajir-i-Milat Mirwaiz Kashmir Moulana Mohammad Yousuf Shah on his 64th death anniversary.
He said the recent sectarian clashes were very painful and its the duty of Ulema and intellectuals to pay their attention to resolve the problems facing the Muslims.
Mirwaizs of Kashmir have always remained at forefront of Muslim unity and today also Mutahida Majlis Ulema provides a platform to keep the nation united and jointly resolve issues facing the nation.
Mirwaiz also expressed shock and regret over the death of elderly Fatima Begum who had sustained injuries in the police action in Dadina village of Budgam recently.
Mirwaiz offered his heartfelt condolences and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family members.
Denouncing the police action on innocent civilians, he expressed sympathy with the people who were injured in government action in Budgam. While offering special prayers for the departed soul Mirwaiz appealed people to maintain sectarian bonhomie. He also asked them to be vigilant of divisive forces who want to break the unity of Kashmiris.
While paying tributes to Mirwaiz Moulana Mohammad Yousuf Shah, he said that painstaking efforts made by him for freedom and wellbeing of people of Kashmir continue to be a gold chapter of history. Mirwaiz Kashmir preferred poverty and immigration but never compromised with his principles and stand, he said according to KNS, adding, In 1955 when he was readying to return, government of Indian pressurized him to give up his stand and was infact made a precondition for his return but he preferred live in exile over compromising on his beliefs and stand. Mirwaiz also threw detailed light on the Jung-e-Badr and paid glowing tributes the martyrs.
Others who spoke on the occasion and hailed the religious and politic contributions of Mirwaiz Moulana Mohammad Yousuf Shah include Moulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari, Jamiat-e-Islamis advocate Ali Mohammad, Jamiat-e-Hamdaniyas Bashir Ahmad Kath. (KNS)
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) spokesman while reacting to recent statement of National Conference leader Mustafa Kamal that Mirwaiz was politically immature, said, It is a known fact that NC dragged Kashmiris into the quagmire of slavery and unleashed limitless oppression on them.
In a bid to show its pro-India leanings NC leadership was still engaged in bloodshed of Kashmiris and recent incident at Gool is a fine example of that. It does not suite people to blame others when their own hands are smeared with the blood of innocent Kashmiris, he said.
The spokesman claimed that NC has lost its relevance and want to attract the public glare by issuing baseless and hollow statements.
