SRINAGAR: Controller, Drugs and Food Control Organisation J&K has impressed upon all stake holders dealing with retail meat shops to ensure that the mandatory sanitary and hygienic requirements for the retail meat shops as laid down under schedule 4 of the food safety and standards (Licensing & Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations 2011 are being observed in letter and spirit for ensuring sale of safe and quality mutton to the consumers.
All Food safety Officers responsible for the implementation of various provisions of the aforesaid Act, rule and regulations shall provide a copy of checklist to all such vendors operating within their respective jurisdiction for self-assessment. The information so collected shall be utilized to evaluate extent of compliance by these vendors and further help to assess the extent of their preparedness for switching over to the requirement under new food law.
The last date for securing compliance with the mandatory requirements of obtaining registration/licensing with respect to such establishments under the new food law has been fixed as 4th February 2014 by the FSSAI. A copy of checklist is also available on the website www.jkhealth.org.
Any Food Safety Officer who fails to comply with the requirements prescribed under the above said Act shall be liable for legal action and also such establishment shall cease to exist.
