Tributes paid to Prof Muzmar

Srinagar: Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Talat Ahmad  at a  condolence meeting organized by Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA) paid rich tributes to Prof Majeed Muzmar    Valley’s known academician, fiction writer and language critic who passed away Thursday  at an age of 59 after brief illness .

Hundreds of members from Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA)   fraternity, and other staff joined the meeting conducted by by Dr Irshad Zia  its General Secretary.

The KU fraternity including the teachers, scholars, students and other staff of the varsity expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of Prof Muzmar and offered their  sympathies to the bereaved family.

Vice-Chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad while expressing his grief over the sudden demise of Prof Muzmar  assured all help to the family of the deceased .

Prof Talat termed Muzmar as a thorough gentleman and a reputed Urdu scholar and said that Prof Muzmar had highly contributed to the corporate life of the University during his illustrious career as an academician.

Dean academic affairs  Prof A M  Shah also spoke on the occasion and recalled the contributions of Prof Muzmar.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Dr Irshad Zia( political sciences )   Dr Mushtaq Ahmad department of Urdu, Dr Nasir Mirza  , MERC , Prof Bashir Ahmad Nehvi  and Prof Taskeena Fazil from IICP KU .

Meanwhile Prof   G M Sangmai President KUTA expressed great shock and sorrow over the demise of Prof Muzmar and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.

The meeting ended with Fatihah  for the departed soul which was recited by Burhan Rashid from Islamic studies department.

Hailing from Badusgam village of South Kashmir, Prof Muzmar has more than dozen books and around 50 research papers to his credit.  Among his publications Urdu Ka Alamati Afsana, Rang Baten Karen, Kashmiri Drama aur Fiction, Naqoosh-e-Adab, Rooh-e-Adab, Urdu Adab Mein Kashmir and translations from English published by Sahitya Akademi including Kalhan, Rasul Mir, Sheikh Noor-ud Din Wali and Ali Mohammad Lone are valuable assets for both the languages which will guide the teachers and students alike.

He has been writing scripts for Radio and Television and drama serials for TV and participating in literary programs for the last more than 30 years.

Besides his literary contribution, Prof Muzmar was Chief Investigator of various UGC Sponsored Research Projects. Prof Muzmar has also worked as a member of , Boards of Post- Graduate Studies in Urdu, Kashmiri, Persian & English, University of Kashmir, Board of Research Studies in Faculty of Art & Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy and Boards of Under-graduate Studies in Urdu and Kashmiri, University of Kashmir, Consultant Committee for Children’s Literature in Kashmiri under Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, State Level Advisory-cum-Purchase Committee (CLACPC) Directorate of Libraries & Research, J & K Government. He has also worked as Vice- president All India Urdu Manch, Kashmir besides participating in various national and international literary seminars.

Prof Muzmar had a Teaching Experience of around 2 years at undergraduate level and 26 years at post-graduate level during which he guided /supervised 21 M. Phil scholars and 08 PhD scholars.

Prof Muzmar had an experience of 15 years as an Editor with Research journal “Bazyaft” of Department of Urdu . He also remained member editorial board of the University magazine “Gulala” for several years.

Meanwhile, various literary personalities, organization, teachers and students have condoled the demise of Prof Muzmar. Dean students welfare Prof Nelofar Khan has expressed shock  over the demise and termed it   as great loss for student community of KU . Registrar KU prof Zafar A Reshi , deans of various faulties , heads of departments were present in the meeting .
