KCCI Demands Rollback; Threat To Tourist Industry: KHROF
Srinagar – With the new hike in fuel price, the commuters in the summer capital allege that the transporters have begun demanding additional fare, without any formal order from the state government in this regard.
If there is no such order from the government as yet, how come they (transporters) would ask for additional fare asks Ashfaq Ahmad, from the Srinagars Khanyar locality. He said this unreasonable demand from the transporters has given rise to heated exchange of arguments between commuters and conductors.
Meanwhile, the business community in the state has shown displeasure over the Centres decision about the fuel price hike.
President Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) president, Abdul Hamid Punjabi, while condemning the hike , demanded its immediate roll back.
He said the decision is going to have damaging effect on every sector of the economy. It will ruin everything he told Kashmir Observer. He said people dont have resources to bear this brunt. How can you expect people to bear this burden after every three months”.
On limiting the LPG cylinders to 6 per house hold per year, Punjabi said, instead of curtailing the gas supply to the households, they (government) should curtail the misuse of LPG in the open market. In broad day light, LPG cylinders fitted in vehicles are refilled before the eyes of administration and police, he alleged adding No steps are being taken to curb the misuse.
Secretary general Kashmir Hotels and Restaurants Owners Federation (KHROF), Manzoor Sidiq said the hike in the fuel prices and cap on the LPG cylinders would be having damaging effect on the tourism industry, as everyone would float new prices. “This gives bad name to the industry,” he said adding “We do agreements with the tourists before they visit us.”
Demanding an immediate relook, Sidiq said the government should keep such proposals in the main budget, so that people would remain aware and ready.
Prominent businessman from Jammu, Bakhtawar Malik relates these regular hikes in fuel prices as non-sense and absurd. It shows, what kind of governance we have, he said adding it is sometimes used to divert the attention of people from scams and scandals.
