SRINAGAR – Authorities have announced the end of winter break in Kashmir valley schools and asked officials to ensure all schools re-open on February 24.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government had announced winter vacations in all schools up to class 12 in the valley and in winter zone areas of Jammu division on December 10 last year after repeated attempts to re-open schools had failed.
Schools, colleges and universities were ordered shut on August 5 last year following abrogation of J&K’s special status and its division.
The state administration later attempted to reopen schools but did not succeed because while the teachers and other staff reported for work, the students did not turn up.
Chairing a meeting of officials here on Saturday, Director School Education Mohammad Younis Malik said all arrangements are in place. While the timing for school in the Srinagar municipal limits will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m, for others it will be 10.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m, he said.
The meeting was attended by Joint Directors, Chief Education Officers and Zonal Education Officers of Kashmir Division.
“Last year students proved their mettle and now it is our responsibility to extend our support to them and redouble efforts to get their syllabus completed well in time”, he said.
The field Officers were instructed to visit schools regularly to monitor the follow up of academic planner for timely accomplishment of set targets.
