SRINAGAR: Expressing his displeasure over what he termed as the inaccurate reporting by some sections of media about the deaths in the Ramban firing incident, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Friday said it does not help in improving the situation on the ground.
As deeply as I regret yesterdays deaths, the inaccurate reporting of death toll is unprofessional and certainly does not help us on the ground, Omar wrote on twitter.
He said many TV news channels and websites of leading national newspapers were reporting a higher death toll in the firing incident than the official figure of four.
The state government meanwhile today appealed to the people to not believe in rumours and maintain peace, brotherhood and harmony.
We appeal to the public not to believe in rumours and maintain peace, brotherhood and harmony, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pradeep Gupta said.
He clarified that four persons were killed in the firing incident at Shadi in the Gool area of Ramban district yesterday and not six as reported in a section of media.
The state government has sanctioned ex-gratia relief of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin to those killed in the firing incident, he said adding, a job will be provided to one of the family members of those killed.
