SRINAGAR: Police and paramilitary forces were enforcing curfew in several towns along Srinagar-Jammu National Highway after widespread protests following death of six persons in BSF firing on Thursday in Gool area of the highway town of Ramban.
Traffic on the lone highway connecting Kashmir Valley with the mainland India remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Friday resulting in the suspension of Amarnath Yatra.
An official spokesman in Srinagar said Friday evening that the Yatra would remain suspended on Saturday as well.
The Amarnath Yatra was halted on Friday after Curfew was imposed in the Kashmir Valley as a precautionary measure.
“Curfew would remain in force till further orders from Friday morning onwards in Srinagar and all other major towns of the Valley,” police said here.
While stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards their destinations at 6.00 pm last evening after curfew was imposed in Ramban, Banihal and Batote no vehicles were allowed today, the spokesman said.
