SRINAGAR: A Kashmir University professor was arrested by police on Tuesday after his in-laws registered a case against him complaining that the said professor not only demanded dowry from his wife but also beat her up ruthlessly.
Sources said that Assistant Professor of Botony Department in Kashmir University, Lateef Ahmed Pir beat his wife to pulp at Mirzabagh Complex of the varsity.
Reports said that Pir beat her wife ruthlessly after which she informed her father. The father-in-law of Pir lodged a formal complaint at Police Station Nigeen after which the police arrested the accused.
He has alleged that his son-in-law frequently used to demand dowry from his wife and even after meeting such demands he on routine basis would torture her physically.
May be he (Lateef Ahmed Peer) was arrested in domestic violence case but I cant comment on the matter as I dont know anything about it, Chief Proctor Kashmir University, Mohammad Afzal Zargar said.
A police official while confirming this incident said that the accused was arrested after his father-in-law lodged a complaint that Pir used to physically torture his wife. (CNS)
