GANDERBAL: Clashes erupted in Larsun area of this district after body of Kashmiri youth Abid Ganaie was brought to his native village from Rajsthan on Tuesday. Agitated protestors, amid pro freedom slogans, demanded an impartial probe into the alleged killing of the youth.
Reports said that thousands of people from Ganderbal District participated in the funeral procession of Abid Ahmed Ganaie son of Abdul Rehman Ganaie at Larsun. His body was brought from Rajasthan to his native village. The protestors came on roads and amid anti-India slogans pelted stones on police and para-military personnel deployed in strength in the area.
Police resorted to heavy tear gas shelling to disperse the protestors. The clashes between the protestors and people continued for hours.
Reports said that scores of agitated protestors at Dangarpora Barsuwa dragged a policeman and tore his uniform. The agitated protestors vented their ire at the Head Constable Mohammad Sarwar who was given a severe thrashing. Protestors fled from the scene after leaving him half-dead. Cop was immediately rushed to nearby hospital.
Large contingent of police and para-military troopers were deployed to diffuse the situation. Police imposed severe restrictions in the area to calm down the situation.
