SRINAGAR: In a shocking incident burglars in the outskirts of Srinagar city set a disabled lady on fire after robbing her of gold and cash.
Reports said that two burglars broke into the house of Mohammad Sultan Parray resident of Maloora HMT. I was alone at my home as all the other members of the family had gone to nearby fields. I heard some mysterious noises as I came out slowly, I saw two masked men running away with cash and gold, physically disabled Shameema Bano said. “When I raised an alarm burglars sprinkled kerosene on me and tried to set me on fire, she said.
Shameema saved herself by jumping into a nearby canal. Eyewitnesses said that for a while they thought that Shameema was dead.
After setting the lady ablaze the burglars managed to loot cash and gold worth Rs 25 lakhs. I had set apart all the jewelry for my daughters and some jewelry belonged to my daughter-in-law, Mohammad Sultan said.
Confirming this incident, a police official said that burglars sprayed kerosene oil on the lady and decamped with Rs five lakh cash and Jewelry worth Rs 20 lakh. We have registered a case vide FIR number 204 under section 307, 457, 380 RPC and hunt has been started to nab the culprits, he said. (CNS)
