Newly Appointed Employees Of Kashmir Seek Revocation Of SRO-202

SRINAGAR – A protest demonstration was held at press enclave here on Sunday by employees of different government departments recruited under contentious SRO-202 seeking the removal of said rule that deviods them of all the service benefits.

SRO-202 which was brought in when late Mufti Mohammad Syed was the chief minister of the erstwhile state, states that the new enterants in the government departments will have to stay under probation for initial 5 years before being comfirmed as permanent employees, the rule that received a huge backlash from almost all the quarters.

Besides, as per the SRO-202, the new government employees will not be granted allowances like House Rent Allowance (HRA), Dearness Allowance (DA), Transport Allowance (TA) etc given to the all other employees as per the service rules.

The employees holding playcards that read anti-SRO 202 messages, termed the rule as anti-youth and discouraging to the new entrants as, they said, government, under the laud down laws, is duty-bound to pay the equal wages for equal work for all it’s employees.

Citing the groundbreaking report of Law Commission of J&K which was released by it in November last year, the employees said that Commission heavily criticized the rule and it’s makers for it’s mammoth probation period and denying service benefits to the newly appointed employees.

The Commission in it’s report which it submitted to the government for consideration, has strongly suggested government to reduce probation period from 5 years to 2 years.

It also advocated for amending one clause of the rule wherein Commission says newly appointed employees be given all service benefits enshrined in the government service rules.

While the government unveiled new reservation policy for the newly created Union Territory few days ago, it reportedly is busy in formulating new recruitment policy for the UT of J&K.

The protesting employees appealed the governor administration to completely repeal this draconian rule for the larger benefit of the government departments and of the society.
