Srinagar: A day after Congress spokesperson, Renuka Chowdhary, dismissed suggestions that Congress was compromising on the national interest because of coalition compulsions in J&K, senior NC leader, Mustafa Kamal, hit back at Congress saying Delhi cant keep Kashmir by force always.
One lakh people in Kashmir have died for dignity. New Delhi should understand that without restoration of autonomy situation wont improve in J&K, said Kamal.
While reacting to Chief Minister Omar Abdullahs recent statement, Chowdhary had on Wednesday said coalition didnt compel her party to sidestep the national interest at any point.
Saying that the reason behind the resurgence of militancy in Kashmir was Delhis stubborn approach, Kamal exclaimed, Till how long can they keep J&K with India through army.
Terming Congress and BJP two sides of the same coin, Kamal said, Our accession with Delhi is conditional. If BJP only says they will erode special status of J&K, Congress tries to do that. If we want our rights back, is it playing with national interests? Whatever Omar said is right. Situation in Kashmir can take any shape if the dispute remains unresolved.
When asked as to what forced them to remain in coalition with Congress if both parties werent on the same page on Kashmir, he said, If you want thieves should come and rule Kashmir then it is ok. We are the largest party of the state and are trying to represent aspirations of the people. We cant leave this responsibility. We have to keep democracy alive. Wherever democracy dies in the world, civil war begins.
