LEH: In yet another incident of border tension, Chinese troops allegedly intruded into Leh-Ladakh sector in Indian administered Kashmir a fortnight back and damaged the CCTVs installed in the sector by Indian army to monitor activities of Chinese soldiers.
The Chinese troops allegedly intruded into Leh-Ladakh sector a fortnight back, threatened locals in Hindi language and damaged the high resolution CCTVs installed in the sector by Indian army.
On June 17, a Chinese army patrol intruded into the Indian side and dismantled cameras set up by army in Chumur near Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) sector along Line of Actual Control (LAC), daily DNA quoted sources as saying.
They said the cameras were installed by Indian Army after the three-week long stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops in the DBO sector came to an end in April this year.
The three-week impasse was resolved when Chinese troops withdrew in exchange for an Indian agreement to destroy some military structures south of the border that the Chinese believed were threatening.
High resolutions cameras to monitor activities of Chinese soldiers
While the Indian Army had dismantled tin sheds it had set up in the area, it quietly set up high-resolution cameras to monitor activity of Chinese soldiers on their side of LAC, sources said.
Referring to June 17 incident, the newspaper quoted sources as saying that Chinese troops were proficient in Hindi language and threatened locals. They asked them to vacate the area as it was Chinese territory.
Broken camera equipment returned on July 3
The newspaper said the broken camera equipment was returned to Indian Army at a flag meeting between Indian army and Chinese army officials on July 3 in Chusul area following negotiations between the two sides.
Sources said the incident was reported to Indian government by Indian intelligence agencies. However, the government kept it under wraps as the government did not want another international controversy while it was also battling the floods in one of its states in Uttarakhand.
The Indian Army has stopped patrolling the Chumur sector as part of a bilateral deal between Delhi and Beijing.
A senior analyst said there is a major difference of perception between Delhi and Beijing on where the LAC is. The Chinese perception is very different from ours. So, every time they intrude, they insist it is their territory while we claim it is ours, he said. Agencies
