SRINAGAR: The fourth edition of one of Indias biggest motor sporting events, J&K Bank Mughal Rally began here this morning amid great enthusiasm and fanfare. The three day grand sporting event was flagged off from Royal Springs Golf Course Srinagar, jointly by Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo, Minister of state for Home and Tourism and Abdul Hamid Banday, Executive President, J&K Bank.
Among the 120 participants of the high profile rally include Limca Book of World Records holder, 49-year-old Sampada Rangnrekar from Mumbai, eight-time winner of the Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya Suresh Rana from Manali and three-time winner of the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm, Satish Gopalkrishnan.
Speaking on the occasion, Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo said, “The Mughal Rally has become a boost to tourism in the region and is already one of the most famous events on the motorsports calendar of the country”.
Describing J&K Banks role in the event more oriented towards supporting and encouraging adventure sports in the J&K state as part of Banks Corporate Social Responsibility, Abdul Hamid Banday said, The idea is to promote J&K as an attractive adventure tourism destination and also invite the attention of tourists to the unknown tourist destinations on and around Mughal Road, the historic path used by Mughal Emperors Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan to travel from Delhi to Kashmir.
The rally has three categories – Rally Xtreme (cars), Rally Xtreme (Motorcycles) and Rally Enduro. The first two categories are fast paced, while Rally Enduro follows the Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format.
The rally will feature a hill climb race to two of the highest passes in the country – Pir Ki Gali and Sinthan Pass, showcasing the state’s amazing potential for adventure sports.
