CM to review progress on monthly basis
SRINAGAR: The government will set up the much needed Medical Supplies Corporation rolling within a month to curb the spurious drug issue as the organization will primarily deal with the purchase of drugs.
Sources said the cabinet has already sanctioned the formation of Medical Corporation and it has been agreed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will be the head of the corporation while the minister for Medical Education Taj Mohiudin and Minister for Health Shabir Ahmed Khan will be its vice-chairmen respectively.
The corporation, sources said will have a governing body comprising of Secretaries and Member Secretaries. Chief Secretary Muhammad Iqbal Khanday will be the part of governing body, sources said.
Sources in the Civil Secretariat said that Health Minister Shabir Khan has taken a lead in formation of the Corporation and has send the proposal to the General Administration Department to fill up the vacancies for law officer, stenographer etc. Confirming the development to KNS, Health Minister said that the Corporation will be made functional within a month. We are on job as all man power would be available in less than a months time, he said.
Khan said that to avoid any confusion, Minister for Health and Minister for Medical Education would be vice-chairmen of the Corporation so that the organization will work in a close cooperation.
Sources said since Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would be its chairman, he would chair a review meeting of the corporation every month. They said that the corporation would deal with the purchase of drugs meant for the hospital supply and equipment needed for various hospitals.
Sources said that job of purchase committees would automatically end when Corporation would start functioning. They said with the help of corporation, government would be able to curb the spurious drug issue as no drugs would enter any hospital without proper testing. The Corporation would not only be responsible for the purchase of drugs only but the quality of medicines supplied to hospitals as well, they said. Similarly, the Corporation will also be responsible for the purchase of important equipment to be made available in the hospitals across hospitals in J&K.
Pertinently, the spurious drug issue had rocked Kashmir after Doctors Association Kashmir found that at least 11 drugs that were supplied to various hospitals across the Kashmir were found spurious in nature.
The government after facing mounting pressure had ordered an inquiry which is being conducted by the Crime Branch of J&K while the issue is being following in the High Court following the fact DAK had filed a petition over the issue. KNS
