Srinagar: Asserting that the announcement of packages or inauguration of railway lines and power projects wont heal the wounds of the Kashmiris, Hurriyat (G) Chairma, SAS Geelani, Tuesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to shun the traditional stubborn approach and fulfill the commitment with respect to the resolution of Kashmir issue.
Geelani said Kashmir was neither an economic problem nor an issue related to good or bad management.
During the last 65 years, you gained a lot of experience and with all your military might, tried to change the aspirations of the Kashmiri people by announcing packages but you failed to change the hard realities, said Geelani adding, Instead of all your attempts, the situation has remained unchanged. The uncertainty and instability in Kashmir prevails.
While thanking people for observing a complete shutdown, Geelani said, If Manmohan Singh desires that his visit should deliver some good for the Kashmiris, he should announce an independent inquiry into the Kunan Poshpora gangrape by army and forced disappearance of ten thousand youth. Geelani said Manmohan Singh should order the removal of all the draconian laws and release of Kashmiris prisoners.
He cannot feel the inner aspirations of the suppressed Kashmiris by holding closed-door meetings with Saif ud Din Soz and Omar Abdullah, said Geelani, Instead, he should visit Kunan Poshpora village, unmarked graveyards, listen to woeful tale of innocent son of Shaheed Mohamad Afzal Guroo and interact with those parents whose wards were brutally killed in year 2008 and 2010.
Geelani said the people of Kashmir were not unrealistic in their approach nor were they fanatic. Instead our people are a peace-loving nation and we want peaceful solution of Kashmir issue. We, as Kashmiris, have nothing personal against you or Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, however the people of Jammu and Kashmir protest because both of you figure among the prominent personalities of the country which, with its military might and repressive measures, has occupied J&K. How is it possible we could be happy on your arrival?
Geelani said India had imposed a war on Kashmir. This war has been imposed on us by India and, in principle, we are not against negotiations, Geelani said, adding that India is using these negotiations to buy time and is trying to mislead the international community.
Till now, Kashmir issue was discussed 150 times but no results were yielded. This is because of the stubbornness of approach of India, Geelani added
