Srinagar: With culprits behind spurious drug scam still at large another scandal involving substandard and misbranded food items flooding the Valley markets has surfaced.
A team of health officials from SMC led by Dr. Rubina (Health Officer SMC) today raided a canteen in lower court Srinagar and seized many items for laboratory testing including a brand of soft drinks being offered there.
The soft drinks seized belong to a pseudo-brand and is substandard enough to impact the health of the consumers negatively, she said.
On verifying the details, it was found out that the brand was a pseudo one with no manufacturing date on it. The brand as per the bill details had from the canteen owner was delivered by Mohsin Enterprises located in Batamaloo. The dealer as such claims to be the registered dealer and distributer of the Pepsi products which on verification was found out to be otherwise. A case under food safety act was registered against the dealer and a report of fraud and cheating was also filed against the same by one Ajaz Ahmad War in Police Station Maisuma.
