SRINAGAR – Two police men have been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Kashmirs summer capital Srinagar, witnesses say.
They say gunmen fired from a point-blank range at the policemen on duty at Hanuman Mandir area of Hari Singh High Street.
Head Constable Mohammed Maqbool and Constable Nazir Ahmed died on the spot, a police official said.
A civilian girl identified as Ishrat, resident of Ganderbal, has also been wounded in the attack.
The gunmen managed to escape from the area which witnesses a huge rush of shoppers.
The attack comes just a day after police launched a spontaneous search operation in the city centre, taking people by surprise.
