SRINAGAR – Jammu and Kashmir administration on Thursday released five politicians including three former legislators after keeping them in detention for more than five months following abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution.
Officials said the five mainstream politicians were released from preventive detention this afternoon.
The leaders who were released include Altaf Kaloo (ex-MLA National Conference), Showkat Ganaie (ex-MLC National Conference) and Nizamuddin Bhat (ex-MLC PDP).
Former mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation Salman Sagar (National Conference) and Mukhtar Bandh (PDP) were also released.
On December 30, five mainstream politicians, including two MLAs were released from detention by the JK Union Territory administration. As many as 35 mainstream leaders were moved to MLA hostel in the heart of this capital city from Centaur Hotel on the banks of Dal Lake in view of harsh weather conditions.
Meanwhile, National Conference President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is likely to be moved from Hari Nivas to Government Bunglow on the Gupkar Road in Srinagar on Friday, sources said.
