Geelani Takes a Dig at Judiciary, Says Agencies Call the Shots in Kashmir

SRINAGAR – Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday said that while the authorities were openly rejecting court orders without any justification, the judiciary on the other hand never took notice of the violation.

“Police and administration do not honour the court orders. Such violations not only tantamount to insulting their Constitution and law but is an insult and humiliation for judiciary too,” said Geelani  in a statement, adding that police and administration had let loose reign of its arbitrary rule for the last twenty three years.

“It is highly deplorable that Sate High Court in its verdict proves that a person convicted is innocent and his detention is illegal, but contrary to it, he is rearrested on the same charges by the authorities,” said Geelani.

The Hurriyat Chairman was referring to the arrest and shifting of senior separatist leader Mushtaq ul Islam to unknown destination after he was released by the court. He said the local administration followed the diktat of the central intelligence agencies.

Terming the slapping of PSA as weakness and cowardice of the government, Geelani said authorities were scared of the “political strength” of the resistance leaders.

While commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s statement that there was a drastic change in the attitude of Kashmiri people, Geelani said, “Rahul Gandhi is under misconception. The achievement he is proud of has been achieved after brutally killing one hundred twenty five innocent youth and injuring four thousand of them.”

The Hurriyat (G) Chairman urged Amnesty International and the International Red Cross Committee to take a serious note of the plight of political prisoners and use their influence to ensure an immediate release.
