Srinagar, June 13: Senior NC leader Nasir Aslam Wani Thursday said that the educated youth joining militant ranks was a new trend and the government was looking at the pros and cons of this development.
It is a serious trend, said Wani, and the government has started looking into this new development.
Wani, who was MoS Home to the current coalition govt, said his party never claimed militancy was over in the state.
Militancy still exists but there are certain areas where militancy is almost over. It is alarming that the educated youth are joining militant ranks and this trend should end at any cost. The Government is investigating the matter seriously and hopefully all the reasons behind this it will unfold, he said.
He welcomed Mian Prime Nawaz Shariefs statement that Pakistan would resume dialogue process with India. It is a welcome statement from the Pak premier and we believe that good Indo-Pak relations will help in resolving Kashmir issue, said Wani.
He said if Pak premier was in favour of a dialogue with India, then Hurriyat should have no objection in holding talks with New Delhi. We will welcome Hurriyat if they decide to participate in the elections. If they dont participate, it is ok but they should not show reluctance in holding a dialogue with GoI, he said adding that time had come that we give permanent peace a chance.
