Tral, June 10: People from South Kashmirs Tral town and the adjoining areas have levelled allegations of gross harassment against army during a twenty hour long crackdown that spread over Tral, Dadasara and Kuchhmulla areas. Locals alleged that the army used all kinds of tactics to generate a fear psychosis among them.
The soldiers kept shrilling throughout the night. They beat drums and blew whistles and no one was able sleep a wink. The children were terribly frightened by these war-cries, said a local.
In a bid to apprehend militants involved in the killing of the four army personnel on May 24, a large army contingent comprising 3RR and 42 RR laid the siege at around 2 pm on Sunday. The army was assisted by SOG. The crackdown continued for more than twenty hours during which sniffer dogs were pressed into action.
Army used the public address system to inform people that they were under siege. They ordered people to keep the lights off,: said locals comparing it with similar events that were so rampant during the early 90s.
People, especially youth, were thoroughly questioned and their I-cards were checked.
They created such a ruckus during the night that we felt totally insecure and helpless, alleged the masses
