SRINAGAR: A week after miscreants desecrated mosques and shrines in South Kashmir’s Tral town, unknown persons set ablaze the shrine of Mir Syed Hamdan (RA) at Kounsar Bal area of the same town. The incident left people fuming while tension gripped the whole town. People are demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
Official sources told Kashmir News Trust that miscreants set the shrine of Mir Syed Hamdan (RA), which is adjacent to a mosque at Kounsarbal on fire. The fire caused partial damage to the shrine, damaging its couple of rooms.
When contacted a police official said that they have taken cognizance of the incident and an FIR vide number 90/2019 under section 295, 436 has been registered and all efforts are on to trace and book the miscreants involved in this atrocious act.
ADC Tral Shabir Raina told KNT that Tehsildar Tral Zubair Ahmed has been appointed as Inquiry Officer who will submit his report in stipulated time.
Pertinently, during the intervening night of November 17 and 18, miscreants targeted three mosques and a shrine in the same town. The miscreants had smashed the window panes of Masjid Sharif Bait-ul-Muzam at Ratherpora Dadsara, Masjid Sharif Naikpora Amerabad Tral and Masjid Sharif Sangrama. Miscreants had targeted the Shrine of Hazrat Syed Akbaruddin (RA) at Dadsara and even set matting of Masjid Sharif Naikpora at Amerabad Tral on fire. The incidents had sparked protests while police stations Awantipora and Tral taking cognizance of these incidents and registered formal FIR’s vide numbers 86/2019 and 140/2019 in this regard.
District Administration Pulwama had appointed ADC Tral, Shabir Raina as Inquiry Officer who had visited spots of incident and had assured that he will file the report within a week’s time. However, no such report has been submitted so for.
Meanwhile, Raj Bhavan has issued a statement condemning this shocking act. Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu conveyed that such acts are designed to arouse passion among the people and hurt their sentiments and such acts will not be tolerated. He said that perpetrators of this heinous act will not be spared and shall be brought to justice. Police has already launched a massive manhunt to nab the culprits. LG appealed to the people to maintain peace and clam and not to get swayed by any rumour mongering or by inimical elements. He directed the DG Police to strengthen security of shrines across Jammu and Kashmir. He also directed Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to take immediate measures at government expenses so as to restore the pristine glory of the said shrine. (KNT)
