India-China war along the McMahon Line in October 1962 was more a result of India’s policy towards Dalai Lama and Tibet and other skirmishes along the Line of Actual Control proclaimed by Chinese Premier in 1959. My understanding is the war ended when the Chinese declared a cease fire the next month. The Chinese also announced its withdrawal from the disputed area. India learnt its lessons, and has modernized its defence. Since then talks have also taken place but not yet concluded. With huge trade protocol signed recently between these countries, I don’t think Kashmiris or Indians need worry about it. So, I don’t understand which large area India has lost!
We all know Pakistan has ceded some part of Kashmir to China but that too on lease is a bit of news. Pakistan does not have any legal right on Kashmir, so why part with any land that you don’t own. By the way, how much Pakistan has earned on these lease payments to date!
