SRINAGAR – Government Forces launched a massive crackdown in Anchar area of Soura here in Srinagar outskirts.
Official sources told Kashmir News Trust that Forces used drones and motor-boats during the cordon and search operation, however, no one was arrested during this operation.
Anchar has been in news after the abrogation of special status in Jammu and Kashmir. The area witnessed first major protest rally on August 8 in which several protesters were injured. Anchar has been witnessing stone-pelting incidents in fits and starts.
Official sources added that a vast area of Anchar was cordoned off after which massive search operation was launched. The Forces personnel used drones and motor boats to track down militants; however, they didn’t establish any contact.
The houses were searched and identity cards of people were thoroughly checked.
Forces launch 16 hours long search operation in Pulwama hamlet, Five injured in clashes
Government Forces launched a 16 hours long search operation in Karimabad area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, official sources said.
They said that after the inputs received about the presence of militants in Najar Mohalla area of Karimabad, a Cordon and Search Operation was launched, that was accordingly extended to whole hamlet.
Sources added that during the search operation, no contact with militants was established. The houses were searched and the identity cards of the people particularly youth were checked.
A villager told Kashmir News Trust that amid chill people were asked to assemble at one place. “Elderly men suffered a lot during this operation that was called off after 16 long hours.”
Another villager said that amid search operation, groups of agitated and angry youth pelted stones on Government Forces who retaliated with firing pellets and tear smoke shells. The clashes left many youth injured.
Villagers said that at least five youth suffered pellet injuries. An official while confirming the eruption of clashes between Forces and youth said that maximum restraint was exercised to avoid collateral damage. (KNT)
