SRINAGAR – A group of ‘concerned citizens’ led by Yashwant Sinha will be visiting Srinagar from November 22 to assess the prevailing situation in Kashmir valley where business and life remains paralysed since abrogation of Article 370 on August 5.
The group comprising of Wajahat Habibullah, former Chief Information commissioner, Kapil Kak, former Air Vice-Marshal, journalist Bharat Bhushan will interact with the people from walks of life, sources told Kashmir Observer.
Sinha and others were earlier denied permission to enter Srinagar and were sent back from Srinagar airport itself on September 17 by local authorities.
The group which has been closely monitoring the situation in Kashmir ever since it came into being few year back has been demanding restoration of civil rights of Kashmir including revocation on ban on internet and other modes of communication in Valley.
The group is likely to spend 4 days in valley and will be visiting major towns as well, sources said. It is not clear if the authorities will allow the group to visit Kashmir.
The visit comes close on heels of visit by prominent political activist Yogendra Yadav to Srinagar.
Yadav told media persons in Srinagar on Friday that continued internet ban was hitting day-to-day life in Valley. “It (internet) is a necessity and basic right of people which has been denied to them,” said Yadav.
“We don’t need internet to watch videos on you tube. There is so much in our lives that are internet dependent. Without web access trade and economy have suffered badly in Kashmir” said Yadav.
