Srinagar: Panic gripped Gulabbagh area of Zakoora in Srinagar outskirts on Sunday night when unidentified pistol borne four masked men barged into a house and fired few shots there. Police however denied that any firing incident have taken place in the house but the family claims that police seized cartridges while masked men left one live bullet behind before fleeing from the scene.
Ajaz Ahmed Bhat son of Abdul Rashid resident of Gulab Bagh Zakoora and his wife Neelofar while depicting the photographs of live bullet told CNS that unknown assailants barged into their house possibly with an intention to loot them. It was around 9 when I heard my father screaming. I called my husband and was shocked to see two Pistol borne men beating my father ruthlessly. When I resisted they pushed me to wall, Neelofar said adding even neighbours were scared and they didnt dare to come out from their houses on seeing pistol borne masked men.
Her husband Ajaz Ahmed a farmer by profession said that he pelted two boulders on them and in return, they fired three shots. One bullet hit the wall, another bullet was fired by them in front of my feet while the third one they shot in air, he said.
Neelofar said that all the pistol borne four men fled from the scene and they heard the noise when they started bike, she said adding that they have no animosity with anyone and possibly these men had come with an intention for burglary.
We soon after this incident rushed to police station Zakoore but they didnt accompany us to the house. During morning, they seized all the dead cartridges and took them along, however did not lodge any FIR. We were puzzled to see a live cartridge lying inside our yard, Nelofar said.
When contacted Station House Officer Zakoora Meraj-u-Din said no firing incident have taken place inside the house. I have not received any complaint so far and we have not registered any FIR in this regard, he said.
Meanwhile, Ajaz Ahmed said on phone that Inspector General of Police, Abdul Gani Mir assured them of stern action against those elements. We brought this issue into the notice of IGP and he assured us of swift action against the guilty, he said. (CNS)
