Jalal Ud Din Baba Awarded The ‘Inspire’ Award

NEW DELHI -The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS India) Monday announced the winners of the 9th edition of the RBS Earth Heroes Awards (REHA) and Jalal Ud Din Baba, who hails from Kashmir was awarded the ‘Inspire’ award for his commitment to filmmaking in environmental issues.

The award is given to those who have made a significant mark in the space of “Climate Change” – the theme for this years awards.

RBS ‘Inspire’ Award recognises an individual (journalist/filmmaker/artist) or institution who has influenced thought or inspired action on wildlife conservation, natural resource management, and environmental protection through their creative expression.

Jalal Ud Din Baba was awarded for his commitment to filmmaking in environment, water, climate change, livelihoods, forests and glaciers. Jalal Ud Din is a guest faculty and trainer at media departments, schools, colleges and universities across the country. He conducts science and green filmmaking workshops, lectures, hands-on training and screenings. He has won more than 19 national and international awards from India, USA, China, Australia, France, Spain and Bangladesh, besides official acknowledgements, nominations and citations across the country. “Jalal Ud Din has a flair for storytelling. He is an empanelled science communicator and resource person with Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology, GOI”, said a press release issued by the RBS-India.

 Other winners of the 2019 RBS Earth Heroes Awards are: 

“The Awards are an attempt to recognise the grit and determination of individuals and institutions who went beyond their call of duty with an aim to preserve and protect our environment”, the statement said.

The seven winners were felicitated in the presence of Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of state for Home Affairs; Babul Supriyo, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change; Prof Ramesh Chand, Member NITI Aayog; Siddhanta Das, Director General of Forests and Special Secretary to the Govt., senior officials, awards jury, and guests, for their indomitable commitment to save the planet’s ecological assets.

N Sunil Kumar, Head of Sustainability, RBS India and CEO, RBS Foundation India, said, “Coming in the wake of the recent UN General Assembly’s Special Session on Climate Change, and the signing up for ‘Responsible Banking’ at the UN, the awards serve to demonstrate the stellar contributions these heroes have made in conserving forests, marine life, and other ecosystems for climate mitigation.”

RBS Earth Heroes Awards were institutionalised in 2011 to provide a national platform to those individuals and institutions that have espoused and undertaken actions to protect our endangered forest, wetlands, and other natural ecosystems. The award winners were selected by an independent jury comprising eminent personalities from conservation science and management, media, and the government.
