Kashmir Landmarks To Be Renamed After Sardar Patel

SRINAGAR – In a significant development, Centre is mulling to change the names of all the important places in Kashmir that includes Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Sher-e-Kashmir Park , Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium and Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium (SKIS).

The move comes close on the heels of official declaration of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as two Union Territories (UTs). Reliable sources told wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the names of significant places that are in the name of National Conference founder late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah who was known as “Sher-e-Kashmir”—the Lion of Kashmir.

In Srinagar, there are scores of places that are in the name of Sher-e-Kashmir. Sources revealed that Centre is planning to change the names of all important places in Srinagar that are in the name of Sher-e-Kashmir or somebody else.

“All these places or institutions will be re-named after Sardar Valabhai Patel and some other BJP founders like Murarji Desai etc. Discussion in this regard is on and final call is expected by November 15,” an official said.

A senior BJP leader in Srinagar disclosed that this was the long demand of the BJP’s Kashmir unit that all the institutions or significant places be renamed after Sardar Valabhai Patel. “Some parties in Kashmir were of the belief that these places were their personal properties as they were in the name of their ancestors.

“To teach them a lesson, we have proposed name of Sardar Valabhai Patel for all these important institutions and places in Jammu as well as in Srinagar,” he said. “Deliberations are on over the issue and we are hopeful that final call will be taken soon.” (KNO)

Places Named After Kashmiri Politicians Will Be Changed: BJP Spokesperson

Stating that all the places named after the political leadership of Kashmir will be changed, BJP spokesperson Surindar Ambardar on Tuesday said that those who looted Kashmir for over 70 years have given nothing to the people of Kashmir, except cheating them through political gimmicks and scams. They don’t deserve to have places named after them, when we have legends like Shamas Fakeer , Wahab Khar, Lal Ded, Lale Argame and Habba Khatoon, who are the real deserving personalities, to have important places named after them.

While taking to Kashmir Observer Ambardar, said there is nothing wrong in naming Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium after Sardar Patel, as he was the person, who unified India.

“Patel was the one, who integrated India and if we can have a park in the name of Pandit Nehru in Srinagar, why not places in the name of Patel.” he said.

Ambardar said that the political leadership of Kashmir has built empires for them and is involved in multiple scams, be it JK Cricket Association scam, J&K Bank fraud or irregularities in Tourism Department.

“Why should we have places in the name of people who have changed their colours according to situation for a want to be in power?” he asked.

He further dismissed the rumours of changing the name of Sheik-ul-Aalam International Airport.

“Nobody is going to change the name of Airport.

I will be the first one in the BJP who will oppose this move,” he added
