SRINAGAR: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora today conducted an extensive tour of Srinagar city and took stock of the pace of developmental projects being executed by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
During the tour, the Minister visited Zakoora, Ellahi Bagh, Nawa-Kadal and Animal Birth Control Immunization Centre, Suhama.
Interacting with the locals, the Minister reiterated the commitment of Government for providing the basic amenities, hygienic and healthy environ to the people of the State, adding that various initiatives have been taken in this regards. He said the concept for developing of Citizen Facilitation Centres was to provide space and facilities under one roof to the people of Urban areas for organizing wedding and other private functions at nominal charges. He said that BPL beneficiaries would also be provided these centres at minimal charges.
Calling upon the locals for keeping their households neat and clean, Mr. Jora also pleaded for extending helping hand in creating hygienic environ in the city as well.
At Pankachwari, Zakoora, the Minister inspected under-construction Citizen Facilitation Centre coming up at an estimated cost of Rs.80 lakh. The project is spread over 2767 square feet plinth area. The double storey building comprises of multi-purpose hall, lobby, bridge/bridge-groom room, store, ladies hall, computer room and two blocks of toilets. He directed the executing agency for accelerating the pace of construction work ensuring timely completion of the project.
Responding to the demands of the locals, Mr. Jora assured that their genuine demands would be looked into and redressed on priority. He directed the concerned for installation of dustbins, street lights and joining of small drains with sewerage drains for their convenience, adding that the issue regarding macadamization and black-topping of road would be taken up with the concerned department.
At Ellahi Bagh, the Minister inspected Community Hall which was constructed by utilizing Rs. 1.23 crore and is ready to dedicate the people. The project having total plinth area of 4699 square feet comprises of two halls, rooms and toilets blocks each and one store room equipped with all modern facilities.
At Nawa-i-Kadal, Mr. Jora inspected under-ground drainage system from Nawa-i-kadal to Qamariwari. He also inspected 2-storey Community Hall at Nalla Band Pora coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 80 lakh. He said that the SMC would also develop a park for the benefits of the locals.
Earlier, the Minister visited Animal Birth Control Immunization Centre, Suhama . Mr. Jora was briefed about the pre and post-operative measures taken for the dogs in the centre. He was apprised that the centre have 15 blocks including kennels, allied sterilization units, wards, operation theatre and multi-purpose halls. As many as 1,000 cases of sterilization were conducted during last year.
Among others, Municipal Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Mr G N Qasba, chief Enforcement officer, Chief Sanitation officer, Executive Engineer and other senior officers of SMC accompanied the Minister.
