Srinagar: The CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has said bail granted to Liyaqat Shah, who was arrested by Delhi police after he crossed over to this side of LoC, nourishes hope for his fair trial.
In a statement, Tarigami said Liyaqats arrest had caused a setback to the state governments policy of return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri youth who had crossed over to the other side of the LoC.
Liyaqats arrest reflects that there has been some sort of misunderstanding and lack of coordination between the state and central government over the return and rehabilitation policy of Kashmiri youth, he remarked. In past, the CPI (M) leader said, many Kashmiri youth have suffered terribly as they were framed in fictitious cases of terror. Later the judiciary had to intervene and they were freed.
He reiterated that such incidents could spread a dangerous trend of unwarranted arrests. Expressing serious concern over the reports highlighting the distressing condition of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in jails, outside the state, the CPI (M) leader urged the government to look into the matter passionately. He urged the state government to take Liyaqats case as an eye opener and review the return and rehabilitation policy to address its loopholes.
