SRINAGAR: A government school teacher in Anantnag district has been suspended after a photograph appeared online showing him relaxing on a chair as school children massaged his legs.
Shocking picture has been clicked at the Government Primary School in Kasnaad village of Khiram area of Bijbehara.
Red faced top officials in education department have now placed the teacher under suspension.
The teacher has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Bhat son of Sanaullah Bhat of Khiram.
The locals alleged that the teacher was habitual of making school children do different jobs for him.
He was earlier posted at the Government Middle School in Harkhal of Khiram and there also he used to make students do different personal chores.
According to reports, Bashir Ahmed Bhat used to threaten his students that they would be failed in the examinations if they didnt perform his personal chores. Not only massaging his legs, Bhat even made them sweep his house and wash his car among many other unpleasant things.
On Monday morning, Bhat suspended the class and asked his students to massage his legs instead. As his students came by turn to abide by their masters orders, he asked one of his friends to click his picture. He later uploaded the photographs of social networking site Facebook.
The pictures went viral on the web, resulting in spontaneous protests by angry parents and locals alike. The agitated mob gheraoed the school and demanded that Bhat appear before them.
Bhat, however, escaped from the rear entrance of the school.
Following huge public uproar against the incident, Directorate of Education, Kashmir, placed the teacher under suspension and ordered a departmental enquiry into the incident.
We have placed the teacher under suspension with immediate effect and formed two teams to investigate the charges against him, Chief Education Officer, Anantnag, Ghulam Rasool Shah said.
