SRINAGAR: A man lost his own life while trying to rescue a drowning boy in Lalipora, Malapora village in Qazigund on Tuesday.
According to reports, few labours including a 14 year old boy, were carrying logs across the Nallah Sindhran at Lalipora, Malapora. As there is no bridge over the nallah, labours had to carry logs from one end to another by wading through it.
Eyewitnesses said that the boy Mohmmad Ashraf Bhat of Bonmohalla, Kulgam who was carrying the logs slipped and was swept away by gushing waters. Upon seeing the boy struggling in water, another labourer Fayaz Ahmed Bhat jumped into the Nallah to rescue him. Though he succeeded in saving the boy but was himself carried away by the currents.
People from nearby area, including policemen, rushed to the spot and after an hour they retrieved the body of Fayaz downstream.
We rushed Fayaz to hospital, however the doctors declared him brought dead, a police official said.
People of the area alleged that the work on a bridge being built over the stream is going on from last 4 years but is nowhere near completion.
