SRINAGAR- The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group organised third Shikara Race- The Lalit Shikarathon at Dal Lake today.
The Shikara race that started from The Lalit Point at Dal lake, was cheered by thousands of locals and witnessed participation of 100 Shikaras from four locations- Nigeen Lake, Dal Lake, Manasbal and Jhelum River. The Group awarded 5 winners at the prize distribution ceremony that was held at the end point- SKICC.
Completing the 5km long race, Umer Shafi and Fayaz Ahmad from Dal Lake, who were the first ones to reach the end point, were awarded by Governor NN Vohra, at the prize distribution ceremony along with the other 4 winners. The ceremony also saw leaders of the local traders, taxi owners, travel and tour operators, folk artists, bat makers giving away the participation certificates and fee to the Shikarawalas.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson & Managing Director, The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group & Vice President- FICCI, said, As a commitment to host The Lalit Shikarathon every year, I am glad to have organized The 3rd Lalit Shikarathon. The race has now become a much awaited annual event in Srinagar and the level of enthusiasm I observe amongst the locals is indeed very satisfying.
Conceptualized by Dr. Suri, the initiative reiterates Groups effort & commitment to revive tourism opportunities in Kashmir & promote sports in the region. Its our emotional commitment towards the people that made us invest in The Lalit Grand Palace Srinagar. Our aim was to bring back Kashmirs former grandeur and I am delighted that we succeeded in doing the same through our unique initiatives, she further added.Besides Shikarathon, The Group, through its innumerable initiatives, has been promoting tourism through sports & has organized landmark events in the J&K region like The Lalit Suri Drass Polo (that has aided in converting a battlefield to a sporting arena) & The Lalit Caddies Golf Tournament.
