Srinagar – Religious organizations in Kashmir on Wednesday strongly condemned a blasphemous video that has surfaced on the internet, apparently from the United States, and termed it an abuse of freedom of press and expression.
A 14-minute trailer for the video titled Innocence of Muslims, was uploaded on the internet depicting Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in a derogatory manner
According to media reports, the video is a brain child of a 52-year old Israeli-American, Sam Bacile who had received a donation of $ 5 million from 100 Jewish donors to make a movie called Islam is Cancer.
Grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Bashir ud Din told Kashmir Observer This is propaganda of the west against a peaceful religion, the grand mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Basheeruddin Ahmad told the Kashmir Observer. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was sent to the world as mercy. Such blasphemous videos will not affect his noble personality.
This shows the mental make-up of the Zionists. They have lost it completely, and we deplore this act of hurting the religious sentiment of Muslims across the globe, he said.
We will not allow any American citizen to enter the valley and I appeal to people to protest in a peaceful manner, he added.
Surfacing when the 11th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks was being held, the video attracted media attention when pastor Terry Jones of Florida promoted 9/11 as International Judge Muhammad Day.
This malicious and unspeakable is an unpardonable crime against which every Muslim should raise his voice without any ifs and buts, the general secretary of the Jamiat-e-Ahl-e-Hadees, Abdul Rahman Bhat, said. They should wage a war against the producer and director of the movie.
This is an unfortunate use of media. It simply cannot be freedom of expression in which religious sentiments of people are hurt, he said.
These criminals should be nipped into the bud before they generate offshoots. We will launch a massive agitation in the coming days. We cannot tolerate heinous act against our beloved Prophet, he said.
The spokesman of the Jamaat-e-Islami, advocate Zahid Ali said: This act should be condemned at all forums. It is the duty of every Muslim to protest against blasphemous acts.
However, reacting differently, the representative of World Forum For Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Hajj Abdul Hussain Kashmiri, said: It has not happened for the first time, they do it with an agenda. These acts are carried out to provoke the Muslim ummah, and this is the time we need to be united. We should desist from uncivilized approach.
Meanwhile, netizens expressed their anger on social networking sites. Messages poured on Facebook and Twitter to condemn the act.
